August --- Tiger Lily For four months I enjoyed thoroughly exploring flower photos to make very realistic portraits. I have grown a little tired of precision and wanted to try something different from my usual style. For my tiger lily portrait I freehand cut the pieces. Some are fused and some are glued down before sewing. I did not secure any of the edges with stitching before the quilting and used only straight stitch. I typically do not do collage, but enjoyed this little exercise. I was very happy with the results of working without a net: no precise pattern drawn, no templates, just a photo. |

| Another thing I learned from this project is that I secretly love orange. It may not have been such a big secret for those who have seen my previous work, but I only came to admit it to myself as I worked through these small quilts. |
