Journal Quilts 2003

03_may_med.jpg (52214 bytes) May --- Mayapple

Mayapples, also known as mandrake, are curious flowers, growing hidden under umbrella-like foliage, as if they are shy and almost fearful of the sun. Underneath this hiding place is a single delicate white flower.

I photographed the flowers, and manipulated the images in Photoshop. Then created a small quilt. When taht quilt was done, I scanned it and printed a small copy onto fabric, adding sheer fabric embellishments, stitching and crazy quilted borders. To see the original quilt and photo, click here.

My goal was to work with value, contrast and negative space in this piece.
