Tigerlily

During the 2003 Journal Quilt Project, I became very interested in photographing flowers and then turning the photos into Flower Portraits using fabric and thread. The journal pieces I did were quite small but I wanted to make a larger piece as well. At the top of the page, you can see the original photo. I made a pieced background of blues that shaded from turquoise tones on the left to darkest teal on the right, in order to relieve some of the green of the original.

This flower is also called Turk's Cap. It blooms in August, after the daylilies have left us and we are wishing to see the brilliant orange once again.
